Sorting clothes for the washing machine

I just put a load of clothes that were coloured black into the washing machine, so that they were separate from clothes of other colours and so that there would not be problems.  One paper tissue in the pocket of one of the track pants brought me down.  Every items is covered in white fluff.  I have been shaking the wet clothing to get it out, but it has not been totally successful. It is a disaster! Learn from my mistake. I will buy a brush to try and remove the remaing white fluff.

Remember to check the pockets for tissues before putting the item into the washing machine!

Does anyone have a clever solution to my problem?
