Help for bronchitus (Crochet!)

About 17 days ago I got a really bad throat infection.  The doctor prescribed antibiotics for me. I also took garlic, horseradish and Vitamin C tablets.  I had a really bad cough due to my irritated throat.  The cough just went on and on and on.  Nothing helped and I was feeling desperate. I confidently prayed the prayer on the Miraculous Medal which is: “O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee”

I also prayed for and to the Holy Souls in Purgatory asking them for a healing.

Yesterday I thought of doing some crocheting.  I thought that it might have a soothing effect on my mind, that might translate in a positive way to my highly irritated throat.  It worked.  I am much better today and the cough is almost gone.

(The throat infection was very real, but it seems that when I felt the problems in the throat and started to cough, it set up a pattern of coughing and the crocheting was a calming influence on the mind that distracted it from noticing the trouble in my throat.  If it works for this, the  distraction therapy (crochet) might also help those who are experiencing pain, even if the pain is due to real physical problems.)

Some more thoughts on the subject
The more I coughed, the more my poor throat was irritated, and the more that it was irritated, the more that I noticed it, and the more that I noticed it, the more I coughed!  A vicious cycle was set up, that the calming influence of doing crocheting interrupted.

Music during an operation

Yesterday I was operated under local anaesthetic. It was not a place that I wanted to be, nor was it enjoyable by any stretch of the imagination, but I got by ok. One of the factors that helped me a lot during the operation was music. The radio was on and there was some very good music. At one stage I almost fell asleep. Music has a real calming effect, provided that it is nice music. The other factor that was helpful to me was that the two nurses and the doctor were very understanding people and made allowances for my vertigo condition.

Masses for the Holy Souls in Purgatory through the organisation: Aid to the Church in Need

A good way to assist the Holy Souls in Purgatory is to have Masses offered for them through: Aid to the Church in Need. You can contact them at:

http://www.churchinneed.org/site/PageServer?pagename=mainpage

Having Masses offered through this organization is a good way of multi-tasking. You assist the Holy Souls in Purgatory, you support priests in poor areas of the world. The Mass offerings go much further than they would in a developed country.

For instance the recommended minimum Mass offering in some areas of Australia is $10 (Australian currency).  In Australia this does not go very far, but in a third world country I have been told that it can buy a large sack of rice and feed many people for a week. The people in these third world areas are usually so poor that they can hardly support themselves, yet alone the local priest, going back to the theme of multi-tasking, you are supporting the building up of the Catholic Church in these areas and are in the process fulfilling one of your important obligations as a baptized Catholic.

You are also building up these communities with their education, infrastructure, health and housing and protecting them from the threat of communism (which will promise them the world and will deliver them misery) and are ensuring that they stay Catholic and not join some other religious denomination. In South American countries, poor Catholics are being diverted in droves into other religious dominations that have lots of financial backing.

You can also ask the Holy Souls for necessary favours as well, perhaps for conversions and for an end to the culture of death. This last petition is an ever increasing need.  On the TV news last night there was a very unwell man who is planning to go to Switzerland to end his life, because thankfully Euthanasia (murdering yourself) is illegal in Australia, although there are definite pushes to have it legalized.

I muted the sound of this manipulative TV news item so that my children could not be affected by it and told them that this man probably has someone encouraging him to do this.  I had a particular Australian doctor in mind who we refer to here as “Dr Death”.  I don’t know why he is not put in jail.  Then the camera angle changed and sure enough there was the doctor that I had in mind.  He was behind this unwell man urging him to end his life, just as he had urged others to do so. Unfortunately some of them have listened to him and have ended their lives. Please pray for the conversion of this doctor.

A Picnic to alleviate family stress

IMG_0854

Life can be very stressful.  Help your health, your marriage and family life by having simple regular picnics.  It need not be complicated:  just bring slices of cold cooked chicken, cut up salad, mayonnaise, bread, a flask of hot water, tea bags, some sugar, mandarins, butter, oranges, bananas, milk, tea towels, plates, cutlery, cups, spoons and a small digital camera to take pictures of the ducks and the flowers and pick a quiet peaceful picnic location near a water tap.

Palestine Sweet Limes (Help to control nausea)

A tip from a friend whose daughter has been undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer: Palestine Sweet Limes help stem the nausea. They are also useful for women who are suffering from morning sickness.

Tooth Decay and Fizzy Sugary drinks (Dental Tip)

It is best not to have sugary fizzy drinks and for that matter acidic drinks like orange juice, but you do have them, drink them through a straw, so that the least possible damage will be done in regard to tooth decay.

Joe the Smoker (poem)

Joe the Smoker

Joe took up smoking

When he was young.

His friends told him,

That it was fun.

Joe thought that smoking

Made him look cool,

But in truth,

He was a fool.

His lungs collapsed,

And his health failed,

Things went bad,

And poor joe wailed.

He collapsed and died,

His family cried.

“He only lasted forty years”.

They said as they sobbed,

Though their tears.

Learn a lesson,

From Joe our friend.

Smoking kills you,

In the end.

A tip from my dentist

Gargling with hot salt water can reduce gum disease. My daughter who is a dental nurse told me that she sees many people with beautiful white teeth, but terrible gum disease because they brushed their teeth well, but did not know that the gums needs brushing too, so they will lose those beautiful white teeth soon. Important note: Discuss this with your dentist, in case he has special advice on the matter for you. (Only use one teaspoon of salt, any more than that could leach and cause other problems for you including blood pressure).

Two more hints:  If you have a dental problem pray for and to the   Holy Souls in Purgatory and to St Appollonia to help you, as well as doing all that you can regarding the problem.
