The Flos Carmeli (Prayer of Saint Simon Stock), A prayer to Our Lady of Mt Carmel

O beautiful Flower of Carmel, most fruitful vine, Splendor of Heaven, holy and singular, who brought forth the Son of God, still ever remaining a Pure Virgin, assist me in this necessity.  O Star of the Sea, help and protect me!
Show me that Thou art my Mother.

           O Mary conceived without sin,
Pray for us who have recourse to thee!

Mother and Ornament of Carmel, Pray for us!
Virgin, Flower of Carmel, Pray for us!
Patroness of all who wear the Scapular, Pray for us!
Hope of all who die wearing the Scapular, Pray for us!
St. Joseph, Friend of the Sacred Heart, Pray for us!
St. Joseph, Chaste Spouse of Mary, Pray for us!
St. Joseph, Our Patron, Pray for us!
O sweet Heart of Mary, Be our Salvation!

Mary’s habit – the Holy Scapular

He is not Dead, but Sleepeth.”

In one of the most sanguinary battles of the Franco-Prussian war, during which so many died of their wounds that they were obliged to bury all the dead in a common grave, we have an instance of how wonderfully God watches over the faithful clients of His Blessed Mother.

Among those who were lying on the field of battle, was a young officer, apparently dead, who was really only in a swoon, consequent on the sufferings produced by his wounds. The Colonel, seeing him in this condition, had hastened to find someone to assist in carrying him to a place of safety; but on his return, he found, to his distress, that the young man had already been borne away to be buried with numbers of his comrades. Greatly afflicted, he hurried to the place where the corpses were piled together, awaiting burial; but, alas! under such circumstances, it was almost impossible to distinguish the features of his friend, in spite of close examination, so disfigured were the bodies which lay before them.

At last a sudden idea came into the Colonel’s mind, and he called out: “Examine the clothes, for my friend wore a Scapular, and a medal of the Immaculate Conception.” They did what he desired, and our Blessed Lady, guiding their search, they almost immediately found the young officer. He was then placed on a stretcher, and taken to hospital, where he received proper attention, and completely recovered his health.

It is needless to say that, as soon as he was able, he gave due thanks to our Immaculate Queen, who had stayed the awful fate which seemed in store for him.

The Green Scapular

green_scapular0007

The Blessed Virgin Mary revealed the Green Scapular to Sister Justine Bisqueyburu, in France, in 1840.  Our Lady promised that there would be many conversions when this scapular was used with confidence in her intercession.  The scapular should be blessed a priest. There is no enrollment required.  Daily say the prayer attached to this Scapular. “Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death”. This prayer can be said in favour of another. If the prayer is not said by the person to whom the scapular is given then it should be said by the person who is giving the scapular. It can be worn, or it can be placed in the clothing, on the bed, or simply in the room with the person.
